Dehra: Bikram Singh Thakur, a former minister from Himachal Pradesh, accused a Congress leader from his area of harassing a senior female police officer during a recent official function, which reportedly left her in tears.
Speaking to reporters in Jaswan-Paragpur, Thakur stated that the incident took place during the virtual launch of a robotic surgery unit at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda.
“I possess credible evidence and documentation proving that the Congress leader caused distress to the officer,” he asserted.
Thakur went on to claim that the incident was reported to the current Superintendent of Police, yet no action was taken. “The most troubling aspect is that when the officer sought assistance from the SP, she still did not receive the necessary support. I am aware that a case has been filed under specific sections, but there are efforts to suppress this issue,” he informed the media.
He drew comparisons to previous incidents, recalling that another IPS officer, Ilma Afroz, had experienced similar treatment in the past.
“Such political favoritism is detrimental to societal welfare. It not only demoralizes our officers but also conveys a negative message regarding the treatment of women in uniform,” he commented.
The senior BJP leader's claims have sparked intense discussions within political and administrative circles. Although Thakur refrained from naming the Congress leader directly, he emphasized that the situation is serious enough to require independent investigation.
Thakur called on the state government and higher authorities to step in and ensure that such incidents are not overlooked due to political influence. “Our officers are essential to governance. If they are disrespected or humiliated due to political pressure, it will erode public trust in the system,” he added.
No immediate response was available from the Congress party or the state police. However, political analysts suggest that the situation could escalate if credible evidence is made public, especially considering the sensitivity surrounding the dignity and workplace rights of female officers.
